What is Teacher Immersion?

The Teacher Immersion course in London, Manchester, York and Edinburgh is designed for teachers whose native language is not English. It helps you to gain confidence in using the English language, understand current teaching methodology and evaluate resources critically, as well as allowing you to share ideas with teachers from other countries and your course tutors.

The course is designed to be flexible, and can be adapted accordingly to meet the specific needs of the course participants. Closed groups of teachers travelling together can be catered for at any time of the year.

The Teacher Immersion course is for:
  • teachers working in a variety of teaching contexts from primary to university
  • English language teachers and specialist subject teachers
  • teachers of curriculum subjects being taught through the medium of English as a second or third language
  • English language teachers for whom English is not a first language
  • teachers working towards a further teacher training qualification such as TKT or CELTA
  • suitable for students aged 16+

Entry requirements:

  • English Level B2 (Common European Framework of Reference) or equivalent
  • some centres may require you to complete a test to provide evidence of your English level
  • completion of a questionnaire indicating your teaching experience to date

Course delivery:

  • 2 weeks
  • 15 hours per week; 3 hours Monday-Friday
  • the course is designed to be flexible to your specific needs and personal development aims
  • we can also cater for closed groups of teachers at any time of the year
  • observations of teachers can be organised around your lessons to complement your class input

Course content:

Course content may vary depending on your personal requirements.

  • lesson planning, classroom management, motivation
    and different learner styles
  • phonology and development of speaking skills
  • evaluation, assessment and error correction
  • integrating authentic materials and technology into teaching
  • observation of qualified teachers and lesson ideas using a variety of resources
  • Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL)
  • assistance in creating an action plan for your continuing professional development (CPD)
  • you will also be sent a recommended reading list

We will help you to:

  • gain confidence in using the English language
  • apply current methodology to your own teaching context
  • evaluate and explore resources and materials critically
  • refine your knowledge of key teaching concepts and ways to teach them
  • update your knowledge of contemporary issues in teaching methodology
  • share ideas and experience with teachers from other countries and course tutors

Funding

The Teacher Immersion course can be used to apply for funding on the Erasmus Plus scheme which is the new EU programme for Education, Training, Youth and Sport for 2014-2020. You should apply early and all applications must be approved by your teaching body.
